SHE - Why I’m so in love with her…

“Wow, you’re so strong….” Someone said to her six months ago.

She stood there on the other side of three unrelated things happening all at once that shattered her heart.

And yet she stood there with grace, determination, and unwavering faith; firmly rooted in her sense of self. She was getting things done as needed, and soothing herself.

She didn’t ask for anything from anyone.

She could have used a hug, some comfort, someone to sit with her in those dark and stormy moments she faced.

But she didn’t get it and she didn’t need it. Because she knew she was fine. She knew no matter how much her heart shattered in this lifetime, that her soul was eternal.

She knew God would never hand her anything she couldn’t handle. So instead of asking Him “Why me?!” She said “I know You know I can get through this and why. So help me see my strength. Help me find my way through this. You are my guide. You are the One to hold me when I’m falling to pieces. So hold me.”

And that He did.

And that’s why she stood there, tall & fierce, while soft & humble. Throat-lump swallowed, with fire in her eyes.

This wasn’t her first rodeo.

She has seen a lot. Endured a lot. Overcome a lot. Healed a lot. Climbed out of a lot of dark places with her bare hands and a lot of miracles. And yet she continued to carry herself with charm and kindness, seeing the good in things.

She’s different. She has a smart mouth and the heartfelt prayers of her ancestors cradling her every step.

She takes on challenges because she knows she can and will succeed.

And sometimes she falters and gets scared.

But that’s because beyond her magic she’s still a human, a little girl inside seeking some reassurance sometimes. But she knows she didn’t need it then and she doesn’t need it now.

She’s beautiful. Not just in that traditional sense of pretty eyes, femininity, and curves in the right places. But in that glow, the sweetness she possesses she doesn’t even realize. The light that pours out of her mixed with the innocence that she refused to lose despite all that tried to break her.

She’s seen things, done things, felt things… but she still laughs at the silliest things, lights up at the simplest things, sees beauty everywhere, and just wants to love and hug all creatures.

She’s different. She’s not like any traditional or stereotypical chick. She’s wise, clever, protective, and fierce. She wants for nothing, asks for nothing, demands nothing.

She regulates herself, checks herself, and bravely corrects herself. She accepts accountability and rides hard for the ones she loves.

She meets all her own needs and doesn’t look to anyone else to rescue her. She works hard and manifests her own dreams while cheering on others.

She’s got the check, the bag, and the power tools. She doesn’t need to be fixed, rescued, or provided for.

She refuses to settle for anything less than all the peace, joy, support, love, and passion she knows she deserves to receive.

She refuses to let anyone distract her or disturb her peace.

Her purpose here is far too great.

She knows this now.

She blinks not in the face of the greatest storms through which she’s walked. Because she knows God holds her umbrella.

She’s unapologetically authentic.

Sometimes awkward and messy.

Sometimes ditzy and forgetful.

But always with a heart of gold.

She inspires me and makes me laugh.

She is limitless, powerful, loving and regal.

And my God, that is why I’m so in love with her.

She is me. I am Her.
